Alyson Clendenen was born and raised right here in Onion Creek, cementing her roots in the community. As a junior high student going to Colville Junior High, Alyson passionately despised the work environment or the experience, so she was compelled to begin learning how to be a teacher in order to create the experience that she had always wanted. So, she got her Associates degree at Butte Community College, her Bachelor’s degree at California State University of Chico, and finally her Master’s at Eastern Washington University. Alyson believes that listening and talking to the students, further learning more about them, lets them know that they are in an inclusive and welcoming environment, and that they are in the right place. One lesson that she believes students should take away from being in her classroom is having a heightened sense of autonomy, having more responsibility within themselves when they leave off and begin highschool. Outside of school, Alyson does a variety of different things, such as hanging out with her husband Liam and her friends, especially thrift shopping with them, hiking with her dogs, reading lots of books, and several other wacky hobbies such as felting, knitting, sewing, building things and more.
